Oberkorn (It’s a Small Town) – The Story Part II

After last year’s exciting first panel exploring the story around the legendary performance of Depeche Mode in Luxembourg in 1982, we have a look at it again. This time with exclusive video footage, courtesy of RTL and the Centre National de l’Audiovisuel. Not to be missed!

In 1982 the now acclaimed band Depeche Mode performed a show at the Rainbow Club in a small town named Oberkorn situated in the south of Luxembourg. What was planned to be a regular show on one of the early tours of the young band became a day filled with anecdotes: fried fuses, technical problems, a sitting audience, fights and above all no eggs for breakfast! This experience has been unforgettable for the band as they gave the name “Oberkorn (It’s A Small Town) to an instrumental song released on the B-side of the single “The Meaning Of Love” the same year.

Since 2013 Sonic Visions proposes a workshop series named after the Depeche Mode instrumental song addressing conference topics from a regional & local focus in the context of the international program. Now, 4 years after the first sessions at the Oberkorn suite and 35 years after the show in Oberkorn we have invited some of the people present on that day! Be ready for some synth-pop anecdotes and true stories about one of today’s biggest bands’ first gig in Luxembourg.
