A practical presentation and a summary by several representatives from the Ministry of Culture about the details of these two regimens as implemented by the modified law of 30th July 1999 concerning the independent professional artist status and the intermittent entertainment workers and about the conditions that need to be fulfilled in order to qualify will be followed by a Q&A session to help each musician in his/her orientation towards one of the two regimens.

The speakers at this workshop will be Claudine Hemmer, chargée de mission at the Ministry of Culture, responsible for the independent professional artist status and the intermittent entertainment workers department, Tammy Tangeten, rédactrice at the Ministry of Culture, responsible for all related applications within the aforementioned department and Anne Hoffmann, Attachée de Gouvernement at the Ministry of Culture, responsible for legal matters.

Booking in the Greater Region (France, Luxembourg, Germany, Belgium)
From 3:30 to 4:30 PM @ M&R Media Library

In collaboration with Multipistes - Accompagnement musical en Grande-Région

The Greater Region, that’s more than 450 venues organizing concerts on a regular basis and 11 million potential concertgoers! This sounds like a heaven for bands and musicians but let’s don’t forget the tricky side of touring an area that encompasses the regions of 4 different countries: Belgium, France, Germany and Luxembourg.
Some of the bookers of the Greater Region invited for this panel will share the realities of booking in their respective venues and regions: How do they work and what are the differences in the various regions ? What ways do exist to facilitate the touring of artists from different regions and countries ? What advice can they give to bands that wish to tour in the Greater Region ?

Host: Yves Stephany (Journalist)

Keynote by Gareth Jones (producer)
From 6:00 to 7:00 PM @ M&R Dance Room

Born in 1954 Gareth Jones is an English music producer and engineer notable for working with Depeche Mode, Einstürzende Neubauten, Wire and Erasure amongst many others. Trained at the BBC, he began working at "Pathway" studios in the late Seventies where he recorded and mixed John Foxx's Metamatic album in 1980 and the first Madness single, "The Prince", in 1979. He helped build “The Garden” studio for John Foxx and worked with Tuxedomoon & Depeche there.

Shortly afterwards he moved to Berlin and worked at the famous "Hansa" studio, where he continued experimenting with recording atmospheres and creating his own sound, making the three “Berlin Albums” with Depeche Mode.

Gareth Jones was a pioneer in the use of digital equipment (including the then new sampling technology), combined with Analogue recording techniques and synthesizers.  He worked with many bands in Berlin including Depeche & Einstürzende Neubauten, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Fad Gadget, Wire, Diamanda Galas. He also recorded and mixed 2 soundtracks for Wim Wenders.

In the early nineties he moved back to London and worked in many famous studios including Abbey Road, Miloco and The Strongroom in London.

More recently he has mixed records by Efterklang, Grizzly Bear, Interpol, Mogwai, Sons and Daughters, Liars, The Futureheads & David’s Lyre.  Remixes for SCUM, Erasure, Plastikman, Can, Goldfrapp, Orbital, Neu, Pizzicato 5. Production work (often including mixing)  includes Emmy the Great, Wild Palms, We Have Band, These New Puritans, Clinic & Polly Scattergood.

During his keynote Gareth will focus on the producer’s role in developing an artist’s potential in the studio and share some of his working experiences. He may also discuss the major changes, which have occurred in the music industry and the music technology (recording techniques, sampling, producing) over the last 3 decades.
