Enter TheColorGrey (a.k.a. Grey – °1994) from Antwerp, Belgium. A 23 year old urban singer/rapper/songwriter/producer of Belgian-Congolese origin whose English raps and sung harmonies combine a tight flow with smooth, laidback vibes, soulful beats and thoughtful lyrics. His self-produced music is a very personal blend of hip hop, new soul, blue jazz, cool R&B and urban pop, with touching melodies that often harbour slightly dark or melancholic undertones.
Early 2016, TheColorGrey released the self produced EP ‘Do The Right Thing’, which caught the attention of urban music lovers, blogs, label reps and radio promotors. The single ‘Sins’ was picked up by alternative radio station Studio Brussels who put the song in heavy rotation, making it the ‘most trending track’ for weeks on the Belgian urban charts.
In the summer of that year Grey signed a licensing deal with Warner Music Benelux, which was followed in November by the release of his next single “Silence Speaks”.
On May 5 2017, TheColorGrey released ‘REBELATION’, his debut album, which was hailed by the press as a breath of fresh air in the urban music scene. Lead single ‘Need To Know’ quickly became a summer anthem on Belgian radios, while the video for the single popped up on numerous blogs, lauded for its humour and Fresh Prince-nostalgia. Follow up single ‘On &
On’ reached the top 3 of Belgian’s important alternative radio chart ‘De Afrekening’.
On November 10, 2017, TheColorGrey released the EP “In Between Phases” which bridges the gap between ‘REBELATION’and a new EP, slated for release on March 30, 2018. First single ‘You Got To Show Me’ was released on January 5, 2018 and was well received on Belgian radio (Hotshot; Stubru and PureLike; PureFM).
